Windermere Swim Team Handbook
WINDERMERE HISTORY
The Windermere Swim Team was founded in 1998 by Lori Finn.
WINDERMERE SWIM TEAM STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
To provide fun, recreational, and competitive swimming for our children while teaching and building self-esteem, self-confidence, and good sportsmanship. Every swimmer will have an equal opportunity to participate on the team in individual events and relays. The team is recreational in nature, but does have competitions in the form of dual meets and the end of the season invitational showcasing the development and improvement of the swimmers.
ELIGIBILITY
All children are eligible to swim for Windermere, provided they are under the age of 15 as of June 1st. There is no minimum age, as long as your child can swim one half the length of the pool without assistance.
FEES
Windermere swim team fees are applied towards team expenses such as coach’s salaries, liability insurance, trophies and administrative expenses. These fees are determined yearly by the Swim Team Board. Checks for membership should be made payable to Windermere Swim Team. All payment questions may be directed to the Treasurer.
WINDERMERE SWIM TEAM COACHING STAFF
The head coach for the Windermere Dolphins is hired by the Swim Team Board of Directors. Assistant coaches are hired at the discretion of the head coach. Applicants interested in the position of assistant coach should contact the swim team coach by Feb. 1st of the current team swim year. If there is no hired coach at that time, a board member can be contacted for assistance. Current or previous employment with the Windermere Swim Team does not constitute automatic employment with the team for any other year. Assistant coaches will be re-hired on an annual basis, using feedback provided by swim team parents, members, the board and the head coach. Employment evaluations will either be held by the coach with each assistant coach or provided in a written evaluation form within one month of the end of that year's swim team season, at the coach's discretion.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
The administrative functions of the team are overseen by the Board of Directors. The Board consists entirely of parent volunteers. Positions include: President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and Members-at-Large.
COMMUNICATION
Team Communication Box
- Event Ribbons and some communication will be placed in a family file folder located in the communication box at the pool. It is the swimmer’s responsibility to check the folder daily for new information.
Email Communication
- All communication regarding swim meets and volunteer shifts will be done via the website and email. Please make sure all pertinent email addresses are on file with the Board. Please do NOT mark emails coming from Swimtopia as spam. This is the messaging site we are transitioning to. If you mark these emails as spam or block them, you will NOT receive important communications.
The Bulletin Board on the wall next to the snack bar will be periodically updated with swim team information.
Coach Communications
- The best way to speak with the coaches is to either meet them AFTER practice or to contact them via email or phone. Coaches will usually make themselves available for 10 to 15 minutes after practice to answer questions, provide information, etc.
